Kill Your Calm · Last updated September 30, 2026

The short version: Kill Your Calm runs on your iPhone. There is no account and no analytics. The stories, your progress, and anything you record with the camera stay on your device. We never see any of it, we don't run ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. The only thing that leaves your phone is what's needed to send you a "new story" notification, and only if you turn that on.

This policy explains what Kill Your Calm ("the app," "we," "us," published by Pith Labs LLC) accesses, when, and why.

What stays on your device

  • The stories' video and audio ship inside the app. Your progress is stored only on your iPhone. That covers which videos you've watched, which tapes you've unlocked, the choices you made, and the haunting hour you picked.
  • Any clip you record in the app is written to your device's own storage and stays there unless you choose to save or share it.
  • We have no server that receives your progress, your choices, or your recordings.

Story notifications

  • The stories are delivered through local notifications. The app schedules them on your device. Nothing about your schedule or your progress is transmitted anywhere.
  • You can revoke notification permission at any time in iOS Settings. The stories still unlock on schedule, and every video stays in the app.

New story notifications (optional)

  • If you turn on "new story" notifications, in the app's setup or in Settings, we can send you one notification when a new story comes out. It's off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time in the app's Settings.
  • They're sent through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging, which uses an anonymous device identifier only to deliver them. If you leave them off, nothing is sent.

Camera, microphone, and speech

  • With your permission, the app records a short front-camera clip for each story's ritual: the Caputo session and the Barbour House summoning. Video effects and apparitions are applied on your device.
  • During the summoning, the app follows the chant you read aloud using Apple's speech recognition, which runs on your device. Nothing you say is sent to us.
  • These recordings are stored on your device only. They are never uploaded, and we have no way to see them.
  • If you choose to save a clip to Photos or send it with the iOS share sheet, that is your action and it is handled by Apple and whichever app you send it to.
  • You can delete recordings in the app, and revoke camera, microphone, or speech recognition access at any time in iOS Settings.

Purchases

Some stories are sold as in-app purchases. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment details or your Apple Account, only confirmation from Apple, on your device, that a story is unlocked.

Accounts and identifiers

There is no account, no sign-in, and no email or password. The app does not use an advertising identifier and does not ask to track you. The only identifier is the one Firebase Cloud Messaging uses to deliver new story notifications, described above.

What we do not do

  • No advertising, no ad networks, and no selling or sharing of your data.
  • No analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no tracking that follows you across other apps or websites.
  • No server that receives your progress or your recordings. There is nothing for us to see.

Who processes the data

Apple provides the operating system, notifications, speech recognition, and in-app purchases, under Apple's own privacy terms. Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) delivers new story notifications, only if you turn them on, under Google's own privacy terms. Photos and the share sheet are involved only if you choose to use them.

Retention

Your progress and recordings remain on your device until you delete them in the app. Deleting the app removes its on-device data; anything you saved to Photos is yours to manage. Firebase keeps the notification registration until it expires or you delete the app.

Content and age

Kill Your Calm is a work of horror fiction. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes

We'll update this page if our practices change and revise the "Last updated" date above.
